When investigator Jerry uncovers bribery and corruption in a high-flying multinational and threatens to expose all, sparks fly. But then Jerry goes missing. It’s left to Kari Erntemann to pick up the hot potato and take on the ruthless character who may, or may not, be behind Jerry’s disappearance. Will she find him in time? Or is her own life at risk? Follow Kari on a rollercoaster journey that takes her from the depths of Central Europe to the heights of the Colorado Rocky mountains, a journey on which one wrong decision could well be her last.

Kari Erntemann is a very mysterious person who will have you hooked on her story. As a strong and one of kind type woman she does not let a little break-up with the love of her life Jerry, get her down. Eventually as she sets out to do research on her story she finds Jerry, who is a reporter and is involved with her on this case. There are quite a few romantic scenes that spice this book up quite a bit.

There's adventure when Jerry and Kari have to follow the trail of the early twenty first century and the dot come bubble. Leo Foxe is a man who is determined to tell of his fathers infidelities to his mother, hoping to gain the business his father build from the ground.

There's a hot story associated with Leo Foxe and Jerry and Kari must figure out what that is which adds suspense, thrill and mystery. Right at her side is Aton von Flamberge, the man Kari was assigned to mentor.

Things start to backfire and the result is the lives of many. Read this book to find out just how Kari can track down the slippery murderer on the loose, who might just be after her next.

The only difficult part about this book is the European writing style, which I am just not accustomed to, but this does not make this a negative comment towards the book. I still rate this book a 5/5.

No Smoke edition by D K Janotta Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Here's a great little international thriller that will really take you by surprise! This novel seems inspired from the works of Stieg Larsson and even creates its own version of Lisbeth Salander with snappy investigative journalist Kari Erntemann. This book packs quite a punch and has a little something for everyone action, suspense, excitement, romance, and intrigue. Once you start reading, you simply won't want to put it down. Author D.K. Janotta has created a fascinating world with memorable characters, and dialogue that never seems forced or contrived.

The European style of writing may throw you off a bit, but it actually enhances the story and truly puts you into this complex world. Recommended.
I'm pretty good about sticking with a plot and finishing the books.
After all, it's mysteries and thrillers, so it is basically filling in dead time, not curing cancer.
I've hit the 50% mark with this book, and so far I've asked myself several times, "What the heck is the plot?"
The characters are so flushed out, I feel like I went to school with them, but I don't know why they're in this book.
Where's the mystery? Where's the thrills? The hero is Kari, and as far as I can tell, she hates where she lives, has no job,
worries about her lost boyfriend, and is tutoring a wanna-be journalist, who she doesn't like.
Then there's this other guy, Dan, who popped up suddenly, hates his job, sees his wife and kids on weekends, and one day kills a stranger. Huh?

I've decided to write this review now, and if I stick it out, I'll update it periodically.

I feel like I'm reading war and peace, not a mystery. Wish me luck, I'm going in!
Let's hope it's not Bush's fault.

Update
The second half was way better than the first. I finished it last night. So, now that it makes sense, I upped it to 3 stars (maybe 4)
and I lowered the rating for the torturous first half.
A little bit thriller, a little bit mystery, and a pinch of romance, D.K. Janotta's first work is a brilliantly crafted thrill ride that proves that Janotta is a master of suspense. With strong characters and an original plot, The Girl Who Put Out the Fire is a homerun.
From the very first page, Kari Erntemann is a strong and unique female protagonist who is endearing to readers, but always remains a little bit of a mystery wrapped in an enigma. At the beginning of the story, we find her looking for a story and looking to understand her recent breakup with the love of her life, Jerry. Soon, Kari finds herself playing the role of mentor to Anton von Flamberge and on the heels of a story investigating illegal immigration and corrupt business practices.
Kari sets out to research her story and find Jerry and winds up tangled in a web of corruption, secrets, and mystery. The plot is full of wonderful turns and is a ride that will make you seriously hesitate before putting this book down for even a second because you'll be so immersed in Kari's world.
Overall, The Girl Who Put Out the Fire is an incredibly promising first work by Janotta that will hopefully be the start of a wonderful career.
